Just got a used washer and dryer today.
The washer is a Frigidaire. I do not have a model number.

My question is it normal for any washer to agitate and spin about a quarter turn through all the wash cycles? Or, is this always a sign of a bad tranny?

No funny sounds or anything like that, but the tub turns in short quarter turns all the way through the wash cycles.

Thanks.

Hi,

GE and Frigidaire washers will "index"....that is the spin basket moves in one direction with the stroke of the agitator....usually it is only an inch or two movement or so. Most times that is normal....actually taking off and spinning while agitating is not normal.

Thanks Jeff. This indexes more than an inch, but the movements are consistent.
My wife and I were talking about this, and she was telling me she has had washers that did that. But, we decided they may have been a little faulty, we didn't know for sure.

Maybe this thing is doing what it is supposed to do. The seller said he never had any trouble out of it, but sometimes the consumer does not realize something is wrong.
