MDE3500AYW
This is the model number of a Maytag a friend of mine owns. I would like to know how old it is before having them invest a bundle in new parts.
Thanks

The "Y" in the model number indicates the year 2000 I believe.

Thank you Jeff1
I will let the owner know and decide what to do next.
From the description given it may only need new support wheels for the drum. The drum is pinching clothes and from the pictures I have seen it look or appears to have a gap at the top of the drum and not the bottom where the drum faces the door or front.
I will be back with some better pics and share my opinion what it may need.

Definetly should be worth repairing...

Belt goes on flat side down? I think that is what the video said.
I must be losing my mind in my old age. I thought I always put them on with the ribs down.

Just the older dependable care style maytag go flat down.....it did help the belt to last longer that way.....everybody else is ribs down....even newer maytags.

Hi Jeff1,
Apparently she needs the Drum Slide, Glide, or Pad 306508 (http://www.repairclinic.com/referral.asp?R=153&N=1309) as the gap in the drum is in the front door side at the bottom and it pinches clothes at the top.
What I will suggest is the replacement of the roller and the drum slide in the front and the back. Also, I will suggest felt replacement as this unit is quite old but still fully functional.
