freezing pumps

How big a worry is it that the water pumps on washers might freeze?

Around here, big time worry!! A day under or around freezing and the fill valve, water pumps will freeze. Same with a d/w.

In the past, I have used windshield washer fluid, but have been told by an old guy he has had that to freeze. Yesterday I poured an antifreeze mixture in some washers. On two or three I added it at the end of a spin cycle to let it mix in the pump. On a few I just poured the mixture in and tilted the machine back and forth and side to side hoping to get the solution to mix a little with whatever was still in the pumps. Also poured some in the drain pipes of some and tilted forward so the it would go toward the pump and be in any crook the drai pipe might have if I left the drain pipe on.

Not sure what to do about the inlet valves in unheated areas.

Blow air in to blow out any water often helps.

Blow in at the hose connections on the back?

Sure. If going to sit for an extended period of time in the cold, remove the fill hose inside and blow it out also.

No worries about damaging diaphram in the valve?

Freezing would be worse.
