tranny oil?

There appears to be a black grease-like substance at the tube oil seal. Looks more like wheel grease than what I would expect transmission oil to look like.

Any special tools needed to replace this seal if it has to be replaced? Have to drop the tranny?

Maybe someone used grease to install the seal at some point. I know the spanner nut and the agitator nut were very tight as if someone had been in this thing once before.

Just under the agitator?
Tranny oil is like 80 weight gear oil....thick like molasses.

Under the agitator at the end of the spin tube where the spanner/tub nut is.

Will the shaft have to be dropped out of the way to change this seal? Will I be able to pry it out, or do I need a special tool of some sort?

Normally a flat screwdriver can pry it out.

Looks like I am calling the brake and drive tube the spin tube. There looks to be a seal right at the top of this tube. What is it called? Brake and drive tube seal?

Thanks, looks like number 4 is the one I am talking about. If that one is bad, does it mean the other ones need replacing too?

In order for any oil to get all the way up there, probably yes....but a couple new seals on top will prevent any water from passing down and displacing any oil out.
