Frigidaire washer troubles

Hi Jeff,
looks like I found you again. Took a few minutes, I assume you gave up on the other EZ board that you frequented.

Anywho........having an issue with our Frigidaire model: GSTR167ASO Serial # XC31303462 Date of purchase: 4/21/2003

Of course it goes out with my family up for the Thanksgiving break..... What it is, it will act like its fills with water, but the basket doesn't move at all.
It just sets there. The pump is working because it pumps the water out.

Before I tear into this thing, do you have any thoughts or recommendations on what to look for?

I do want to pull the back off and see if the belt is on the motor and basket pulleys. I think it's OK, I'm leaning towards a motor control issue.

I tried to find a schematic as I do play around with electrical and I'm not afraid to go in and make a repair, if I have a road map that is....

Yes you're correct Jeff, I apparently missed a zero.

The model is a GSTR1670AS0.......not sure if the last character is a "o" or a "0".

That one works :)
Last digit is a 0 ( zero ).

Will be an tech sheet inside and envelope behind the lower front panal for testing the motor and motor control board.
Definetly make sure the belt is in place. Often would also ( power off ) remove the motor board ( back bottom ) and inspect for any burnt spots.

OK, this is what I found.

There was a full print as you stated and a pretty good troubleshooting list as well in an envelope taped to the inside behind the front panel, left side.

I do see a broken tub strut on the right side, but that isn't really any big deal at the moment. I recall changing the left side sometime ago, I guess I should have done both.

I did some resistance measurements, but I have to say that when I plugged the power in to make a voltage check and after I pulled the knob out, I could hear sizzling and see sparks down where the motor speed control is located, so I have a bad feeling about that already. I looked at the circuit board and I see a burn mark under a large capacitor, that ain't good.....

I did take some resistance measurements anyways, this is what I see.

On the speed control plug (on the board itself) Pin #1 to #2 , #2 to #3 and #1 to #3, they all start off about 160K ohms and then slowly increase to about 350 to 360K ohms and then seem to settle at that. These are supposed to 3 Meg ohms + or - 10% according to the paperwork that I have. Not good.....

On the motor itself, Pin #1 to #2, #2 to #3 and #3 to #1, they all measure about 3.2 ohms, which is pretty close to right according to the paperwork, which states 2.6 Ohms + or - 7%, I guess that's a little high though.

The other measurement is from Pin #5 to #6, which measures 182 to 184 ohms, which is right on the money by the print.

I tried to check the fuse on the speed control board, but it is kind of soldered right into the board, it does check continuity while in the board.

I guess I'd start with a new speed control board anyways.

Sounds like a good idea....and the shocks come in pairs now....

OK, I've ordered the speed control board and the 2 shocks. I can't keep the washer down too long or the clothes back up, if you know what I mean......

According to the ohm readings, do you think the motor is OK? I believe it's alright myself.

Is there any warranty on the board?

From the ohm readings it would seem ok.

Hi Jeff,
I have the motor control board back in and the motor seems to be working OK again. I put the shocks in, but I found that I have put them in upside down after reading the instructions. I know I should have checked them before I started.... Does it really make any difference?

Also, I never really noticed , but when the machine is draining out, I assume the pump is running, something under there is very noisy, sounds like it's up front.
Would the pump make very much noise if it's starting to fail? Maybe something in it.....who knows?

Not really, might get water or dust in them but they should work either way.

Some do yes.

That is very common...esp in the rubber boot before the pump and this can float around in the water and get sucked into the pump.
