This fridge shows to have a Refrigerator Defrost Heater Assembly (WR51X10030) and Heater Bracket for GE Refrigerator D Series (WR51X10030 Sub WR51X10055).

When I checked this fridge, there was only one heater for the bottom sdection of the condensor. There is a mounting place for another between the two sections of the condensor. There is no sign there as ever a second heater on the fridge except for the second mounting holes between the two sections. No signs of spliced leads or any extra leads that might connect one heater to the other, nothing. I replaced the bottom one. The leads coming from the stat did look like the ones in the Heater Assembly that looks like go to the middle section with the ends looped and taped. I untaped the ends to make it fit without maybe distorting the heater. Not sure how the one I removed was fitted. It did seemed a bit warped. This may explain part of the problem it was having not defrosting.

This is the one I posted about with the burned out heater and bad df stat.

If it had two heaters, how did they connect?

I thought maybe the leads being shown with the Heater Assembly are the leads that connect it to the bottom heater and the ones I used for the bottom heater are the leads that should go to the first heater. But, I just looked a picture of the assembly. The assembly includes the df stat. The leads are the leads coming from the stat

Is there supposed to be a second set of leads from the middle heater to the bottom heater?

I hate going behind someone that knows even less than me. Or worse, people who tend to rig things.

Nope and yup.....they use to have 2 heaters, always! But then GE took one away and went with the one heater on the bottom instead of one in the middle and one on the bottom. Some couldn't keep us and they came out with a daul heater kit, but only some needed that.

The manufacturer has replaced part number wr51x10030 with this item, part number WR51X10055

So you are correct, you only need the one heater.

Thanks a bunch. The screw holes in the middle and the diagram showing two for the model was really throwing me off.

To make it worse, the parts diagram also shows this heater was also used...

Yep, that is the "Assembly" I was referring to. The other one is listed as "Heater Bracket" I think.

But yeah, that is what was throwing me off.

First one (http://www.repairclinic.com/referral.asp?R=153&N=914088) is heater and bracket only.
Second one (http://www.repairclinic.com/referral.asp?R=153&N=880031) is heater, bracket, wiring and stat.
