KitchenAid dishwasher KUDE60 lower arm not functioning, it spins freely but no water appears to flow through it.

I removed it along with the rear wall spray and all looked well. There's a red valve in the supply leading to it, looks like it might be a disc, which might divert water from the lower arm to the rear wall spray but I'm not sure what it does or where to begin diagnosis.

Help appreciated.

Posted earlier about a lower spray arm which isn't working right, I suspect water intended for it is being diverted to the rear spray assembly. While snooping around underneath, I discovered this white part dangling.

What is it and should we be concerned?

I tried putting both of your posts together and above is what I got.

What white piece?....left or right side of your pic?

(I'm the original asker in this thread. When posts were merged, my user name vanished and I need that to log on)

KUDE60FVSS3

The white part on the right in the above picture, it's resting on the floor and can be wiggled around. It looks like it'll pull the clamp off that's in the uppermost center of the photo. I took that picture by reaching in and snapping blindly.

Tried entering diagnostics mode by pressing heated dry > normal wash three times and all the LED's came on and remained on for at least 2 minutes. What's that mean?

There's plenty of water in the unit. I did notice at one time during the end of a cycle (can't identify what it was doing without an old fashioned mechanical timer) that the lower arm actually was spinning. But it's clearly not during the wash cycle and lots of stuff remains in it for another round.

What should I do?

More often than not a diverter motor issue...

861 Diverter Motor (http://www.repairclinic.com/referral.asp?R=153&N=1454503)

Nothing.

Looks like the wash motor...#10...

Thanks.

I don't need the spiffy blue spray arm that's on the back wall to function.

What position should I manually leave disk shown as 18 in the parts diagram in such that the lower spray and upper spray arms will always be receiving a supply if water? Disabling that motor is fine, too fancy four us anyways and one less thing to maintain!

I don't know, never done that....might cause a fault code to come up....but this may help as it is a manual I found...

That's a great link, thanks.

Do you think if I simply removed the red disk that there will be enough pressure to power the three levels and power scrubber on the back wall?

I was thinking also of removing the red disk and blocking the line to the power scrubber (plugging it with pumped in silicone or JB Weld?) on the back wall to keep pressure maximized on the three levels. Thoughts?

Nope...probably not powerfull enough and that is why they cycle the different arms on at different times.
