Cabrio Dryer advice

I'm pretty handy and have already done service on my dryer a while back - it was making thumping noises so I took it apart and cleaned out lots of dust and checked the belt, pully & rollers. It has been fine for 5 months. However, it started making an even worse noise this week and I need some advice on whether the visual I see is a more serious problem than just the repair kit (pulley, belt, rollers). There is black oily dust all around the bottom of the unit and on the motor. Could not find a post anywhere that describes what I see. Dryer does dry but makes a god awful noise.

I couldn't tell from the video.

That idler pulley looks to be chewed up from what I could see in the pics.

That was dumb of me not to include the model!!

Some squealing, mostly like a rattle, no thumping although watching the dryer for a little while it looked like it would spin and then have a hard time spinning and then recover. I did notice when I took the belt off the drum that it was chewed up in one spot. Which may account for the random slow down of the spin.

I guess my main concern is what the black stuff was. It's a lot compared to the small are of the belt. The motor *seems* fine but since I'm no expert.....

The pulley, do you mean the white wheel? Or the whole assembly? I have a kit with the wheel.

Nope, the black pulley beside the motor.

Which includes everything you mentioned except it comes with the pulley wheel only, not the whole assembly. Would that be sufficient or should I order the thing you mentioned?

That appears to be the wrong style kit for yours. Belt and idler appear wrong, wheels should be the same style.

I haven't put them on yet but other than the color they are identical. Belt is same size and width. BUT, I bow to your expertise and am sending the kit back and I will get the ones you recommend.

Here's the nitty gritty - work was finished on Saturday and the dryer sounds better than when it was brand new.

Whirlpool makes a lot of dryers and although parts are numbered for a particular device, in fact quite a few are duplicates of one another. After quite a lengthy back and forth with Whirlpool, that's what I found with the wheels and belts in particular. I had ordered a kit and it seemed like it might not fit my machine. However, the only thing extra I needed was the idler pulley assembly, as the kit only came with the wheel and not the idler arm. In retrospect, I'm not sure I needed to replace the entire idler assembly, as the wheel in the kit and the wheel in the OEM idler pully assembly were the same but not the same as my orignial.

As to my concern about the black dust on the motor (and everywhere else in the case), it's suspected that it is the carbon dust from the brushes in the motor. That means at some point, I could be replacing it. However, it is showing no sign of being a problem so I'm leaving well enough alone for now.

Another odd thing, when I did service on it in the summer, I took pics and followed the reassembly - I did not replace the belt. When replacing the belt this time, I read that it needed to be ribbed side down in one of the videos I watched, which made perfect sense. I believe the machine came with the belt installed incorrectly, which accounts for it not operating correctly since the get go. It was installed with the slick side down. Now there is NO noise from the dryer at all!! It's so quiet, I have to now set the alarm on it.
