Hello Jeff1,

useful information:
- model# 110.70802990
- approx age: OLD
- make/name/brand: Kenmore

The time taking clothes to dry started taking longer untill the clothes did not dry much at all.

So I looked at the appliance site you have linked to selfhelpforums for ideas. I first tried changing the cycling thermostat thinking that it was bad; it was not but I changed it anyway as there was some kind of gray coating on it. I had checked the electric ignitor - good. and the thermal fuse. THe only 2 items left I did not check was the flame sensor and the high limit thermastat.

I suspect it is the Gas Valve Solenoid set because the dryer lights the gas once and then not until I turn off the dryer and let it set for about 3-5 minutes.

What I did notice about the operation watching through the peep hole for the burn can is the first time the dryer lights the gas, the ignitor gets very bright. After that the subsequent times it does attempt a relight, the ignitor does not get as bright like something turns it off prior to reaching the brightness I see on the first light up.

Your thoughts?

Hi,

Sensor: if open the ignitor will not come on, if stuck closed the ignitor will come on and stay on.
Safety thermostat:If open no ignitor and flame as it stops the power completely.

Certainly sounds like the coils on the gas valve or the valve itself as the coils are bad for working once or twice and then failing.

Gas burner valve solenoids. Kit contains both the two wire and three wire solenoids (http://www.repairclinic.com/referral.asp?R=153&N=3479)

Thank you for your prompt reply Jeff1.

This verifies my suspicions that the gas valve coils are most likely the culprit.
I will get them on order and post back with results after I change them.
