I have a Maytag MAV5000AWW washing machine that is somewhere around 10 years old (I can give the serial # if necessary). It has been great, and we have had zero problems with the machine. Two days ago the machine started making a horrible noise during the spin cycle. I have not run it any more, except to shoot this short video so that you can actually hear the noise. I would very much like to keep this washing machine if its not going to be too expensive or difficult to fix. Please let me know what you guys think from the sounds in the video. Thank you.

Hi,
First is to tilt the washer back, remove the belt and maually turn the pulleys....one is the motor, one is the pump, one is the tranny.....a bad pump is very common for noises.

Thanks Jeff. I'm also a Jeff. I did as you recommended below, but I'm still not able to hear any sounds when I manually turn the pulleys. Maybe because I can't turn them fast enough... I don't know. I guess that I'm just going to bite the bullet and let a professional check it out. Hopefully it's not going to be too expensive. Thank you for the help.

Thank you so much for your help Jeff. You and one other person told me that it's probably the pump. I decided to go ahead and try the replacement myself. It was very easy (but pretty smelly). It was smelly because the last load of wash that we did a week ago had not completely drained yet. While I was under the machine I went ahead and changed the 10 year old belt as well. Its running just like new now!!! You guys provide such a great service. Thanks alot. I will leave my youtube video up if anybody else wants to hear what a bad water pump may sound like.

We have the Maytag Atlantis series also. It makes a loud noise on spin cycle. It's not the same as texasmans. It's more of a loud roar that is present for the whole spin cycle. Other than that it seems to be working fine. Im sure sooner or later this noise is going to cause some sort of issue. Any suggestions? -Thanks

Hi,
Maytag Atlantis series
Model#?

It's more of a loud roar that is present for the whole spin cycle.
More often than not a little water has weeped past the tub seal and into the tub bearing which causing the bearing to make that roaring noise during the spin cycle.
