I cannot get access to the adjustable surface burner orifice hoods. The burner control panel does not release as explained in the "appliance aid " instructions. This is an older 1993 model. Is there a way that I can get the top of the stove removed?

Jeff - Thanks for the reply. Here's some info:
Amana Range
Model#: AGS 780WW
Serial#: 9312166998
MFG#: P1141252NWW
I removed 4 sheet metal screws from the bottom of the burner control panel. Now the bottom edge is loose. I can pry up on the range top just enough to see two more sheet metal screws holding the top of the burner control panel in place. I cannot get at those screws without removing the top. The surface burner elements (shaped like a castle tower) have small phillip screws going down into the top of the element. They are rusted and impossible to remove. Do they need to come out?
Thanks,
Allen

A copy:
Main Top
1. Shut off power to the range.
2. Remove grates and burner caps.
3. Remove screws securing burner heads to main top.
4. Lift up burner heads. Disconnect electrode from
each burner.
5. Remove screws securing main top to burner assembly.
6. Lift up front of main top to clear control panel to disengage
studs. Pull front of top and remove from range.
That manual is linked here (http://www.applianceaid.com/pdf/B231_1R4.pdf).
