GE Dryer

My sister has a GE Dryer model DWSR483EA0WW, about 12 years old.

It has a couple of strange problems.

#1 The low heat setting produces heat so hot that the clothes are hard to handle after a cycle because they are so hot.

#2 A scrapping noise that only seems to develop after about 10 minutes of run time.

Any ideas? Thanks for the help. I have not visited your forum since you changed the look. Nice job.

Make sure one of the two elements is not shorted to ground...

Front glides being worn is a common trouble maker but since it takes a bit to start I'd suspect the rear bearing for making that noise.

Drum bearing and the glides were shot.

Heating element tested okay.

Apparently the timer doesn't work anymore, I learned yesterday. Any of the fancy dryer options (perm. press, cotton, etc) just continue running until you manually stop the dryer. The timed cycles ( # of minutes) stop when the time runs out. My sister says the clothes are only too hot after you run a full timed cycle 3 times. I dunno. I don't use it and she tells me different info daily.

So I can fix the noise but I'm not sure what to do about her claim of the clothes overheating.
