Appliance tip of the week...

Model Number: sf362lxsb0

Brand: Whirlpool

Age: 6-10 years

My oven decided to stop working all of a sudden. The symptoms are: ON BROIL: One clicking sound from control panel and then 2-3 "igniter" loud clicks but no flame. The display acts as if the oven is on and goes thru the pre-heat countdown. ON BAKE: One clicking sound from control panel, but no "igniter" sounds at all. The display acts as if the oven is on and goes thru the pre-heat countdown. ON WARM: One clicking sound from control panel, but no "igniter" sounds at all. The display acts as if the oven is on and goes thru the pre-heat countdown.

Ok, You'll want to first test your gas safety valve. You will need a multimeter (http://www.repairclinic.com/referral.asp?R=153&N=964740).

Unplug or turn the breaker off to your range first before testing!

Set the Ohm meter on RX100. Remove the three wires from the gas valve. The wire connectors are different sizes so they can be replaced in the same spot. The center terminal is the common terminal. Put one meter probe on the center terminal and touch one of the other terminals and then the other terminal. The meter should read 216 Ohms both times.

290 Gas valve Item Number W10293048 (http://www.repairclinic.com/referral.asp?R=153&N=211718)

It's #15 in the diagram:

You'll need to pull your lower storage drawer out to access it, get a flashlight or droplight so you can see better under there.
