Appliance tip of the week...

Model Number: 106.59502990

Brand: Sears Kenmore

Age: 1-5 years

First of all I would like to thank you all for providing such an insightful place for appliance related problems.

My SxS refrigerator (Kenmore Coldspot 106.59502990) just went kapoot on me. I've scoured the forums, visited all posted links, tried everything I could and I have come to the conclusion that the relay for my compressor is bad. I'm pretty sure its a bad relay because at times the freezer will work, but not for very long or very often. It is also clicking a lot.

Now here are my questions:

1) Where could I find a replacement relay? I've searched and came up with part#8201799 (http://www.repairclinic.com/referral.asp?R=153&N=1164371). The only description provided is "START-DEV" so I am not sure if that is the right one. Are there any off-brand relay that will work?

2) I've located the relay in the bottom rear of my refrigerator. Does it come out pretty easy? I've tried tugging on it a little to see if I could get it out, but stopped because I didn't want to break anything. I'm pretty friendly with fixing things so it shouldnt be that much of a problem; I just don't have much experience with refrigerators.

Luckily I have another fridge in my garage so my food will not go bad. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Yes, its very easy to change, they all are hard to pull off with your hands, I always use a flathead screwdriver and pry it off slowly. Its always best to use the original.
