Why is it I see so many recogmmending replacement of complete timer when the timer motor checks bad?

Most times now we cannot buy the timer motor only on most dryer/washer timers.

Are all these timers about the same speed? Anything to look for or compare if taking one off one timer to put on another timer?

Nope. Have to read the motor speed 1-30 1-43 etc on the motor itself.
