Jeff, wouldn't the model GI6SARXXF02 number indicate the year 1997?

Someone has a french door stainless steel fridge on CL saying they bought it new 11/11 at Lowe's. Among the pictures posted is one of the model and serial number. Oops!?
LOL!

I tried to find the ad. It may have sold.

Anyway, why is a serial number needed to date a Whlpl?

I checked and double checked on 'How Old Is My Appliance' to be sure I was using the correct number.
I even thought maybe I was mistaken on it being Whlpl when I saw your response, but when I google the model number, it shows to be a whlpl fridge.

What am I missing? I reference that page quite a bit to try and determine the age of appliances.

Thanks

Each appliance has a different serial number, but many can have the same model number....with both model and serial we can get a closer manufacture date.

Is there info there to determine if an appliance is 1987 or 1997? The ten years difference can be a little confusing to me at times.

No.
-Sometimes- a date is on the parts breakdown....or sometimes I can tell by looking at the parts breakdown.
