ok I have a maytag atlantis washer, approx 10 yrs not heavily used. model MAV408DAWW. It makes a loud noise in spin cycle, like a airplane engine. Sometimes it drains, sometimes it doesnt. Also noticed if i leave the washing machine tub filled with water overnight it leaks.

Any ideas?

Hi,

It makes a loud noise in spin cycle, like a airplane engine.

Two common trouble makers in the drain pump getting noisy, or the tub seal weeping water into the tub bearing and getting noisy. With the front off and running a load you can usually easily ID what/where the noise is coming from.

maytag atlantis washer, approx 10 yrs

Careful what you spend on this washer, most didn't last past 8 years and these washers have been discontinued since Whirlpool bought Maytag.

thanks for your reply, I just opened up the washer and filled it with water and let it agitate for awhile and then put it in the spin cycle and didnt notice any water leaking. But it is very noisy, cant really pin point exactly where the noise come from but its from under the tub where the spindle is. Pully/belt underneath are tight.

Own a long screwdriver? If yes, -carefully- use it an a stethoscope....place the blade end on the pump and the handle part to your ear...this can often help to pin point where a noise is coming from.

but its from under the tub where the spindle is.

Where the tranny enters the outer holding tank?...if yes, that is more of a tub bearing and seal issue :(

honestly cant pin point exact area, but sounds like its from the spindle area. What are the cost of the bearing and seals, can it be done without special tools?
