What would make a GE front load washer smoke from time to time? Pump? Bearing? Belt? Trans? Anything else?
The way I understand it is it be a few months apart when it does this, but it will set the smoke alarms off when it does. The intermittent part I find interesting and thought it might be a clue as to what the problem is.

GE has some built by Frigidaire with a GE name on it and some are made in China ( Little Swan )....they are different designs.

Odd complaint! Belt, electronics, door switch might be prime suspects.

After a little searching on the net, this seems to be a not so rare complaint. I think this one is included in a recall concerning a wire coming loose and making contact with the cabinet.
I also think it is included in this recall, according to the first few letters in the model number.

Right , smoke is not mentioned in that particular recall.
When I google the problem, I find several others have experienced the smoke. One guy was wanting people to get together and start a class action.
Came across one for sale on Craig's List and found it interesting.

Only the Lawyers seem to get paid in those...the money that is suppose to go to the consumers is normally eaten up by the lawyers!

Good looking washer, but I think I will pass. Little to far from me to go for a mystery machine that may be about to go up in flames.
